Nina de Lacy

Nina de Lacy is an Assistant Professor at the Universty of Utah whose research applies artificial intelligence and digital health technologies to the relationship between emotion dysregulation and substance use. Her team is developing an intelligent smartphone-based approach that uses time-series data and predictive modeling to anticipate periods of heightened emotional distress and provide evidence-based coping strategies before a crisis escalates. The project has received $100,000 in seed funding to support prototype development. Her work aims to provide people with substance use disorders with personalized, real-time support during vulnerable moments when immediate access to a clinician, recovery coach, or other support person may not be available.
