Dong Whi Yoo
Dong Whi Yoo is an Assistant Professor at IU Indianapolis whose research examines the emerging role of artificial intelligence in substance use disorder recovery. His work focuses on the potential risks that arise when people in recovery turn to general-purpose AI chatbots for support during vulnerable moments, including cravings and periods of isolation. He is developing a technology-based safeguard designed to identify potentially harmful chatbot interactions and provide safer responses, warnings, or connections to trusted resources. His work aims to harness the accessibility of AI while reducing its potential harms and supporting, rather than replacing, established clinical and peer-based recovery resources.
