Amber Jarnecke

Amber Jarnecke is an Associate Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina whose research focuses on the intersection of intimate partner violence (IPV) and substance use disorders. Recognizing that IPV can interfere with treatment and recovery but is often not adequately identified in SUD treatment settings, her team has developed a digital toolkit to help providers screen for IPV, guide supportive conversations and treatment planning, and connect patients with appropriate community resources. Developed with input from patients and providers and successfully piloted in an SUD treatment setting, the toolkit aims to equip providers with practical, evidence-based resources for addressing co-occurring IPV and substance use and ultimately improving treatment and recovery outcomes.
