Gregory Kirk

Gregory Kirk is Vice Dean for Research and Professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he leads the NIDA-funded ALIVE cohort, a long-running study of people who inject drugs in Baltimore. His work focuses on improving health outcomes among populations affected by substance use, including emerging complications associated with xylazine exposure. He is developing an AI-enabled wound care application that uses digital images to identify and characterize xylazine-associated wounds, with the goal of supporting earlier recognition, appropriate triage, and remote monitoring. His research aims to translate advances in artificial intelligence into accessible tools for clinicians, harm reduction workers, and individuals facing barriers to traditional wound care services.
