Darian Myers and Hasika Suresh are graduate students at Tufts University. They are working on an innovative personalized transdermal delivery system for naltrexone called MicroShield. Unlike traditional delivery methods, MicroShield bypasses the digestive system, allowing for sustained, controlled release of naltrexone into the bloodstream. This approach not only better manages cravings but also significantly reduces the risk of relapse, leading to improved long-term treatment outcomes. MicroShield has the potential to drastically reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) by empowering individuals to take control of their recovery journey. By removing barriers associated with current treatments and offering a low-cost, customizable solution, MicroShield can improve access to quality care for individuals from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. This innovation represents a significant advancement in treating OUD, offering new hope for effective, long-term recovery.
