Shane´J. Gill is a postdoctoral fellow at Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Gill is working on a multi-lingual software designed for institutions and patients, functioning as an interface for diagnosing and treating substance use disorders. The software deploys a virtual assistant to administer screening tools, compute scores, and offer level-of-care recommendations and medication-assisted treatment (MOUD) options through an algorithm. It would also assess pregnancy and HIV risks to provide additional referrals. Additionally, it integrates into EHR systems like EPIC, enabling efficient billing while reducing provider workload through self-administered screenings. This software has the potential to impact Medicaid/Medicare recipients, especially communities of color affected by billing restrictions for Mental Health and SUD services.
