Clinton Canal

Clinton Canal is an Associate Professor at Mercer University College of Pharmacy whose research focuses on developing new pharmacological treatments for methamphetamine use disorder. His team has designed, synthesized, and patented novel small-molecule compounds that selectively target muscarinic M2 receptors, based on their potential role in regulating neural systems involved in methamphetamine use. Promising preclinical findings in animal models support further investigation of this approach. His work aims to translate these discoveries into a first-in-class, accessible pharmacotherapy for methamphetamine use disorder, addressing a significant treatment gap for which no FDA-approved medication currently exists.
