With a decade of experience as a laser and implant surgeon in India and over three years of experience in global public health, she brings a unique blend of clinical expertise, strategic advocacy, and AI innovation to healthcare. Currently, she serves as a Lead Researcher at the Johns Hopkins Institute for Global Tobacco Control, leading initiatives that translate U.S. tobacco control strategies into global action.
A Master of Public Health graduate from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Shalini’s award-winning policy research on the tobacco endgame reframes the global narrative from “control” to “elimination.” She has previously worked with Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and Action on Smoking and Health, designing global advocacy frameworks and capacity-building programs for low- and middle-income countries. She is also completing her AI-Colab training with Georgetown University-MedStar Health to develop predictive tools for the early detection of oral cancer and leading AI-based projects that address adolescent vaping, merging technology with public health. Shalini was 23 years old when she founded Udaan, a nonprofit that delivered oral cancer screening and health education to underserved Indian communities for nearly eight years.
An emerging voice in digital health, her work focuses on innovation, evidence-based practice, and healthcare ethics, providing equitable solutions for maximum impact.
